WestHaven is a Long-Term Structured Residence (LTRS). LTSRs serve individuals who have severe and persistent mental illness and who have reached maximum benefit from the mental health resources available elsewhere.

  • Psychopharmacology
  • Wellness/fitness
  • Psychotherapies (including group sessions); major theoretical orientations, including behavior modification through positive reinforcement, cognitive restructuring, family systems; and ego-psychological approaches
  • Family education
  • Individualized treatment planning
  • Individualized community programming
  • Health services, including annual physical examinations, semi-annual dental examinations and individualized medical attention
  • Individual and group leisure and recreational activities
  • Cultural enhancement activities
  • Counseling/life skills
  • Creative arts therapy
  • Case management services

Eligibility Criteria

Adults age 18-65

Completed a physical examination and psychiatric evaluation not more than six (6) months prior to application

  • Qualify for voluntary treatment under section 201 of Act 50 (Mental Health Procedures Act) or involuntary treatment under section 304, 305 or 306 of Act 50
  • Have a physician’s certification that the applicant does not require hospitalization, nursing facility care or a level of care more restrictive than a Long Term Structured Facility written within thirty (30) days before admission
  • Evidence of severe psychosocial disability as a result of serious mental illness that indicates a less restrictive level of care is appropriate

Referral Process

Participants must access services through a referral from the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services.
