Project Safe and Smart
Project Safe and Smart empowers children and their parents on how to recognize and prevent potential child abuse. Specially trained facilitators implement this evidence-based approach through classroom-based sessions for children and workshops for caregivers in several School District of Philadelphia and charter schools, with funding from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD). The goal of Project Safe and Smart is to maximize the likelihood of identifying potential abuse, stop harmful situations and prevent future child sexual abuse within our communities.
This is a program of Joseph J. Peters Institute (JJPI), a subsidiary of PHMC, in collaboration with Philadelphia Children’s Alliance, which is also providing this intervention in Philadelphia.
- Safe Touches: an interactive and age-appropriate puppet-based workshop delivered to students in Kindergarten through third grade, teaching and reinforcing important body safety concepts
- Smarter Parents. Safer Kids: a universal prevention workshop delivered to parents or caregivers of children under age 13
