Family Foundations for Special Education Philadelphia Trial
Family Foundations for Special Education is a research project partnership between Penn State University and PHMC. PHMC is creating a special education curriculum for Penn State University to add to their Family Foundations program. The curriculum, which is designed for co-parents of children with disabilities, provides support around entering and working with the Special Education system and Individualized Education Program (IEP) process.
The curriculum focuses on increasing knowledge about the special education system and developing communication skills to help parents work together on ways to support their child’s educational needs. This knowledge and these skills may otherwise be largely inaccessible to many families entering a highly stressful transitional context with their children.
- Develops the specialized curriculum and its related participatory sessions and materials
- Engages participants in the project and deliver the content
