Breastfeeding Friendly Shelter Initiative

The Breastfeeding Friendly Shelter Initiative aims to promote breastfeeding support in family shelters. Funded through SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Education), the program works with shelters both to implement supports and to ensure their long-term sustainability. This is an initiative of Health Promotion Council (HPC), a PHMC subsidiary.
- Identifying and training breastfeeding champions in family shelters
- Supporting the implementation of breastfeeding-friendly policies
- Developing informational materials for staff and residents
- Creating technical assistance modules for ongoing support

Eligibility Criteria
Residents of one of the family emergency shelters partnering with Pennsylvania’s SNAP-Ed program
Referral Process
Participants may access services through their SNAP-Ed family shelter site.
