PHMC VP of Human Resources Wins Minority Business Leader Award
Recognized at Philadelphia Business Journal Event September 24 Event
PHILADELPHIA— Philadelphia Business Journal awarded Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC) vice president for human resources, Celeste Collins, a 2009 Minority Business Leader Award. The September 24 award ceremony recognized Philadelphia’s top level executives of ethnic background and advocates of diversity.
Collins joined PHMC, a nonprofit public health institute, six years ago to head human resources policy development and administration; benefits and compensation; employee relations; employment practices and procedures; and employee communications.
“Always with a smile, always with candor, always with professionalism, and always with conviction born of in-depth knowledge and experience, Celeste has built the relationships across PHMC that help the organization as a whole – and its individual employees – to succeed,” said PHMC President & CEO Richard Cohen.
Collins believes that success in leadership depend upon mentoring and relationship-building. “I believe that HR begins and ends with mentoring, and what we develop in between are great relationships.” Collins said, “I recall my first supervisor telling me that I may need to leave the company to get certain experiences or the salary I wanted … and then I could come back armed for new roles and responsibilities. To this day, I give that same good counsel to others whom I mentor.”
