Community Leaders Tour CHOP’s Behavioral Health & Crisis Center

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) recently hosted a special tour of the Behavioral Health & Crisis Center at the PHMC Public Health Campus on Cedar. Leaders from schools, faith-based groups and community organizations who serve as trusted advocates for West and Southwest Philadelphia residents joined CHOP’s staff to experience this space firsthand. They learned how the Behavioral Health and Crisis Center was created to serve children with acute needs while providing hope and healing in a supportive environment.

The Crisis Response Center uses an empathetic, evidence-based approach to intervention and encourages collaboration between family members. The care team includes psychiatrists, nurses, mental health evaluators, behavioral health clinicians, peer-parent advocates, and patient service representatives. Each plays a distinct role in assessment, intervention and emotional support, ensuring a holistic and compassionate delivery of crisis care.

All youth ages 5 to 17 years with any level of behavioral health concerns are welcome at our 24/7 walk-in center. No appointment is necessary for immediate evaluation. In most cases, children will be able to receive treatment without an inpatient stay.
