PHMC Workplace Belonging Initiatives

A man raising his hand to speak during a presentation at a conference breakout session.

PHMC is committed to providing an inclusive, connected, and supportive workplace by empowering employees to build community around shared identities, interests, and experiences.

Many funders, including the City of Philadelphia, are closely examining diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), particularly regarding the language used to present these concepts. PHMC is guided by these evolving practices and will incorporate terms like “belonging” and “inclusion” in all of its communications.

PHMC will continue to leverage the knowledge gained from previous DEI efforts, as well as the collective insights of trusted partners and resources, to strengthen its role as a champion for the communities we serve and for our employees.

New initiatives launched by PHMC’s Organizational Development & Learning team reflect a modern approach to fostering a spirit of inclusivity and belonging within the organization.

2026 Planned Initiatives

Supervisor Trainings

A new cohort for the Supervisor Training program commenced in 2026. This program leverages engagement and retention efforts at the enterprise level, and we have prioritized new hire supervisors for this current cohort.

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)

  • With an employee-driven opportunity for engagement in social, professional and attribute-centric activities, we are encouraging all employees to think about what type of group would be most significant to you.
  • Whether a passion for culinary arts or traveling, finding connection with fellow empty-nesters or new parents, or exploring shared cultures and traditions, by elevating a variety of ERGs, we hope to aspire new forms of belonging and inclusion throughout the organization.

Every Story Matters

This informational session will show how the stories we tell — and the ones we assume — shape communication, inclusion, and trust in the workplace. Live, interactive webinars will offer learning, reflection, and dialogue to support belonging at PHMC for all.

New Hire Learning Sessions

Through live presentations and facilitated discussions, new hires will be encouraged  to dive deeper into PHMC’s mission and values while building relationships with one another. These sessions will be offered at various times throughout the year and will cover a variety of topics.
