Joseph J. Peters Institute (JJPI) provides community education and professional development trainings that are informed by decades of expertise in evidence-based and trauma-informed practices. Workshops focus primarily on two interrelated domains: preventing and appropriately responding to abuse, and understanding trauma and creating trauma-informed settings.

JJPI is committed to partnering with local communities and organizations to promote education around trauma and to prevent sexual abuse, domestic abuse, interpersonal violence and other causes of trauma. JJPI is a subsidiary of PHMC.

  • Educate community members about signs and symptoms of trauma, access to local resources and community partnerships
  • Partner with the City’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services (DBHIDS) on offering mental heath screenings in the community to provide access to affordable, free or low-cost mental health care, as well as other local resources
  • Equip communities, service providers, and organizations with critical perspective and understanding around trauma through trainings and workshops
