National Nurse-Led Care Consortium Awarded $5 Million CDC Grant
Grant supports building COVID-19 vaccine confidence among nurses
The initiative kicks-off with Nurse-Led Forum for Vaccine Confidence
PHILADELPHIA –National Nurse-Led Care Consortium (NNCC) a subsidiary of Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), has been awarded a $5 million, five-year cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The first year of the grant will support building confidence in COVID-19 vaccines among nurses and the communities they serve.
Nurses play a critical role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic as trusted frontline caregivers, educators and health care leaders. With the rollout of the vaccines across the country, NNCC will use the funds to achieve three goals: build trust, empower health care personnel, and engage communities and individuals. This includes empowering nurses and their care teams with the information they need to speak with patients about the benefits, safety, and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines; provide learning opportunities for nurses to hear from experts on up-to-date clinical guidelines, vaccine development, and new technologies; and amplify the voices of nurses by featuring everyday nurse champions.
“Building vaccine confidence begins with ensuring nurses at the frontlines of care are equipped with the information, tools and resources they need to confidently get the vaccine, recommend the vaccine, address common questions, and combat misinformation,” said Kristine Gonnella, Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives at NNCC. “Studies show that nurses are the most trusted health care professionals in America and we’re incredibly thankful for the CDC’s support as we engage with the nurses and clinical staff keeping our country’s most vulnerable and underserved communities safe and healthy.”
NNCC’s first grant initiative includes the launch of the Nurse-Led Forum for Vaccine Confidence. The forum will create a space for open, honest discussion to explore questions around vaccine hesitancy and share strategies for building confidence in COVID-19 vaccines among the nursing community. Convening bi-weekly through September 2021, each session will be open to the public and will feature a panel with nursing experts representing diverse sectors, including community health, academia, research, and more. Additionally, the grant will support a national multi-media campaign aimed at raising confidence in the COVID-19 vaccine and increasing COVID-19 vaccine acceptance.
The CDC uses grants and cooperative agreements to fund research and non-research public health programs that advance the agency’s public health mission domestically and abroad to keep Americans safe and healthy where they work, live, and play. Among the grantee partners, NNCC serves as the funded organization solely dedicated to advancing nurse-led health care.
