Public Health Management Corporation Appoints Executive Director
of Health Promotion Council
Ayana Bradshaw brings more than 20 years’ experience in public health
PHILADELPHIA – Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), a nonprofit public health institute that creates and sustains healthier communities, named Ayana Bradshaw, MPH, as Executive Director of PHMC subsidiary Health Promotion Council (HPC). With more than 20 years of experience across the public health spectrum, Bradshaw will lead HPC and oversee PHMC’s Health Promotion Services (HPS) area in an effort to connect underserved communities with the education, services, and resources they need to live healthier lives.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Ayana and are confident she will have a tremendous impact on the health and wellness of the communities we serve,” said Dawn Holden Woods, PHMC’s Chief Social Services Officer. “Empowering individuals and families with the knowledge and resources to build healthier lives is the foundation to improving public health. We look forward to working with Ayana to expand our services and reach more individuals with education and skill-building programming.” Bradshaw and her HPC and HPS teams will report to Holden Woods.
Bradshaw previously served as the administrative director with The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Center for Injury Research and Prevention and Center for Violence Prevention. In this role, she led the Center’s strategic vision with fiscal oversight of more than $25 million and the management of more than 100 team members. Bradshaw was also responsible for promoting the Center’s thought leadership across multiple stakeholder groups and led initiatives in support of a diverse funding portfolio across injury prevention research and activities in local communities.
Throughout her career, Bradshaw developed community health interventions for underserved populations, managed day-to-day operations of a federally funded violence prevention center, and managed a chronic disease grantee program for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
She is a native Philadelphian and a graduate of West Chester University, where she earned a bachelor’s in Public Health, and of Temple University, where she earned a master’s in Public Health. She served as an adjunct instructor at both universities, and currently serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors of PMHCC (formerly The Philadelphia Mental Health Care Corporation), and a board member for the West Oak Lane Charter School.
HPC’s direct services approach provides individuals with education and skill-building opportunities to help them better manage their chronic diseases and minimize their risk of acquiring a chronic disease. Direct services include, but are not limited to, nutrition education, cooking demonstrations, cancer and cardiovascular disease education, case management, and patient navigation. PHMC’s Health Promotion Services works to promote community wellness through a number of programs, including workforce development, community investment and HIV/AIDS sexual health programming.
