Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC) was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of PHMC founder John C. McMeekin (Jack) on January 12, 2025. “My heart goes out to Jack’s loving family,” said Michael K. Pearson, President and CEO at PHMC. “Through his work with PHMC, Independence Blue Cross, Crozer Health and countless non-profit boards and civic organizations, Jack dedicated his career to community health. He leaves an indelible mark on our organization and the entire Philadelphia region. He will be greatly missed.”
McMeekin founded PHMC in 1972 with the aspirational mission of building healthy communities through public health.
Under his early leadership and pioneering vision, what began as a federally funded community health experiment start-up has successfully grown into one of the country’s leading nonprofit providers of public health resources, research and direct services – serving hundreds of thousands of individuals across Southeastern Pennsylvania.
“From the moment I met Jack, I was inspired and impressed by his vision of public health, and knew I wanted to be involved in the innovative work happening at PHMC,” said Dr. Richard J. Cohen, past President and CEO of PHMC and President of PHMC’s Public Health Fund, “Jack was a trailblazing leader whose work in public health will continue to live on, positively impacting the lives of countless Philadelphians.”
PHMC is honored to have McMeekin’s legacy continue through the work of his son, John C. McMeekin II, who serves as secretary on the PHMC Board of Directors.
