PHILADELPHIA, PA—Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), a nonprofit public health institute that creates and sustains healthier communities, is proud to announce that Michael Pearson, PHMC Board Vice Chair and CEO and President of Union Packaging, LLC, has been named a 2015 Outstanding Director by the Philadelphia Business Journal. Pearson and the other 11 winners will be recognized as directors who have demonstrated vital leadership and business savvy at an event on February 18 at The Union League of Philadelphia.
"We are thrilled, but not surprised, that Michael has been recognized for his incredible commitment as a key member of the PHMC board," said Richard Cohen, President and CEO of PHMC. "He is a tireless advocate for PHMC and public health in our region and has contributed greatly to PHMC and our family of programs and affiliates."
Michael Pearson has served the PHMC board with dedication and passion, first as Treasurer from 2011 to 2013 and then as Vice Chair beginning in 2014. Under his guidance as PHMC Board Treasurer, Pearson increased organizational sustainability by implementing financial planning and budgeting requirements for PHMC's five programs and 12 affiliates, allowing each affiliate to more effectively carry out its mission and deliver services more effectively to the community. As Vice Chair, Pearson regularly assists the Chief Strategy Officer on strategic initiatives, including the development of internal programs. He is also the Board Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee for the Public Health Fund (PHF), a PHMC affiliate. In this position, Pearson fills a critical leadership role on the Public Health Fund (PHF) Board by providing counsel on the investment strategies and grant making operations of the foundation.
In addition to his accomplishments on PHMC's Board, Pearson is a community leader. He serves on the board of directors for the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. He was a past board member of the United Way of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey and the Committee of Seventy. He is also a part of the Governor's Manufacturing Advisory Council for Pennsylvania.
Pearson holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and served in the United States military as a combat duty Army Officer in the Persian Gulf War, where he received the Bronze Star.
