PHILADELPHIA, PA—Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), a nonprofit public health institute that creates and sustains healthier communities, is proud to announce that it has been recognized as the Health Care Company of the Year at the Philadelphia Business Journal's 2013 Innovation Awards. The award, which was given at a ceremony on October 24, recognizes an organization that has made innovations in health care and life sciences that have greatly impacted the health of people in the Greater Philadelphia region. PHMC's CEO Richard Cohen was also recognized as one of region's most innovative CEOs.

"PHMC is honored to be recognized for our work to build healthier communities through innovative partnerships and programs," said Richard Cohen, CEO of PHMC. "Our leadership, board, partners, and most of all our employees, exemplify an innovative spirit each day that helps us further our goal of improving public health in the region and positively impacting the communities who need us most."

As one of the largest and most diverse nonprofit public health institutes in the country, PHMC has been an influential thought leader in improving public health in the Greater Philadelphia region's most vulnerable communities. Since 1972, PHMC has served as a facilitator, developer, intermediary, manager, researcher, advocate and innovator in the field of public health. PHMC has helped build healthier communities through innovative partnerships with government, foundations, businesses and community-based organizations.

PHMC provides programming and services across many areas of public health, from nurse-managed primary care and healthcare for the homeless, to behavioral health services spanning residential treatment and substance abuse outpatient facilities. The company's Research and Evaluation Group and Center for Data Innovation help inform the region through comprehensive data analysis, and PHMC conducts the annual Household Health Survey, one of the largest regional health surveys in the country. In addition, PHMC is growing in the areas of youth and family care, through its affiliation with social services agency Turning Points for Children this year, as well as expanding into new services such as financial planning and counseling in an affiliation with Clarifi announced last month.

PHMC serves nearly 200,000 clients annually across more than 350 programs, 11 affiliate organizations and 70 locations.
