Richard J. Cohen’s Work to Be Recognized at the Nourish Awards Luncheon

PHILADELPHIA – On Thursday, September 20, Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance (MANNA) will honor Richard J. Cohen, PhD, FACHE, president and chief executive officer of Public Health Management Corporation, at the MANNA Nourish Awards Luncheon. The annual event recognizes champions in the healthcare and nutrition fields. “Through his work with Public Health Management Corporation, Richard personifies the spirit of the MANNA Nourish Awards,” says MANNA’s chief executive officer Richard Keaveney “We are pleased to recognize him for his work, both nationally and locally, in public health.”

Cohen leads close to 1400 employees, over 250 public health programs and more than 10 subsidiary organizations. Under his 31-year watch, PHMC has expanded more than 75-fold and continues to grow, with a current operating budget of approximately $180 million. “I’m honored to be recognized by MANNA,” says Dr. Cohen, “I have long respected MANNA’s work in the cancer, HIV/AIDS, chronic health conditions, and nutrition communities and am thrilled to have contributed through PHMC’s research and efforts in the same arenas.” Each month, MANNA prepares and home-delivers more than 70,000 nutritious meals to individuals and families living with cancer, HIV/AIDS or other chronic and life-threatening illnesses.

PHMC has a long-standing commitment to community-based research, policy analysis and tracking the presence of chronic health conditions including cancer and HIV/AIDS among adults and children in the region and PHMC’s Community Health Data Base (CHDB) has been tracking these issues since 1983 through its household health survey of the population.  CHDB will present its latest findings on these topics from its recent 2012 Southeastern Pennsylvania Household Health Survey during the MANNA networking reception after the event.  In addition, for the past 23 years PHMC’s Research and Evaluation Group has conducted and participated in numerous HIV prevention and intervention research studies that have influenced innovative outreach and education strategies across the country.

The MANNA Nourish Awards will take place at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia. Other honorees are Citizens Bank Foundation and Tri-State Renal Dieticians Association.
