Check Presentation at Rising Sun Health Center

PHILADELPHIA – On Tuesday, April 24, Lorina Marshall-Blake, president of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation, presented staff and patients at the Rising Sun Health Center with a check for $50,000 as part of the foundation’s Blue Safety Net program. The initiative supports nonprofit privately-funded health clinics in medically underserved communities in southeastern Pennsylvania. “We’re very pleased to once again support the work of the Rising Sun Health Center,” said Marshall-Blake. “As longtime supporters of the Rising Sun Health Center, we know our funding helps them provide primary care services to better the health of the surrounding community.”

“We’re delighted that the Independence Blue Cross Foundation continues to show its support for the Rising Sun Health Center and PHMC’s network of primary care centers,” says managing director of health Melissa Fox, who oversees Public Health Management Corporation’s (PHMC) five Federally Qualified Health Clinics, which include Rising Sun Health Center, Mary Howard Health Center, PHMC Care Clinic, PHMC Health Connection and the newly opened Congreso Health Center. “During these economic times, more people than ever depend on Rising Sun Health Center for health care,” added Fox.

Rising Sun Health Center provides high-quality, affordable health care to patients of all ages, regardless of insurance status, administered by its staff of nurse practitioners and other health professionals. Patients receive friendly, convenient care designed to meet patients' needs, in both English and Spanish and with access to interpretation for other languages as required. Services include: primary care, prenatal care, immunizations and flu shots, management of chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes, treatment for high blood pressure, and family planning.

To ensure its ongoing ability to meet the community’s health needs, the Rising Sun Health Center plans to move in the fall of 2013 from its current location at Adams Avenue and Rising Sun Avenue to a larger facility nearby in the One & Olney Plaza. “Our new location will offer 12 exam rooms, compared with the four we currently have,” says clinic director Mariam Salahou. “We’re excited to use this Independence Blue Cross Foundation grant to help fund our expansion.”
