La Comunidad Hispana Receives Prestigious Kresge Foundation Challenge Grant
KENNETT SQUARE, PA—La Comunidad Hispana (LCH) has been awarded a $175,000 challenge grant from The Kresge Foundation to complete its $5 million capital campaign. Launched last October, the campaign has already raised $4.5 million and will fund the construction of a new building to help expand the organization’s capacity to provide its distinctive blend of health, education and social services to low income individuals and families in Southern Chester County.
An affiliate of Public Health Management Corporation, LCH has served Latino and other underserved area residents in a series of rented offices and clinic facilities for 36 years. Its new facility will allow more efficient service delivery and increase the organization’s capacity—and just in time. In the past year over 7,000 people received care at LCH and with the economic downturn, the need for free and low cost medical care, adult education and human services continues to grow rapidly. LCH’s Silver LEED qualified green construction, an additional feature of the building, reflects the organization’s commitment to nurturing the health of clients and the surrounding community alike.
“We are excited to be honored with such a prestigious grant,” said Margarita Queralt Mirkil, LCH executive director. “The challenge will help us continue to rally the community around our mission to empower our most vulnerable neighbors. The Kresge Foundation has made a strategic investment in the long-term well being of a rapidly growing sector of the community.”
