Local Nonprofit Receives Prestigious GlaxoSmithKline Award
PHILADELPHIA-Resources for Children's Health (RCH), a Philadelphia nonprofit promoting positive parenting, healthy pregnancies and healthy children, is the recipient of one of this year's distinguished GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Awards. Selected for its excellence and significant impact in the community, RCH will receive a $40,000 award at a ceremony on Tuesday, March 17 at GlaxoSmithKline in Philadelphia.
"We are very pleased for the support of GSK as we work to assure that parents have the services they need to raise healthy, happy children," says Jeanne Ciocca, executive director of RCH.
An affiliate of Public Health Management Corporation, RCH provides education, outreach and community-based services to support parents in their efforts to maintain healthy pregnancies, raise healthy children and develop and sustain active and positive parenting roles.
RCH is one of ten area organizations to receive award. "All of the GlaxoSmithKline 12th Annual IMPACT Award winners are committed to the idea that everyone should have better access to healthcare and that no one should fall through the cracks. These organizations are on the front lines as change agents, working to build stronger and healthier communities. They are all deeply committed to their work and clients," said Mary Linda Andrews, director of GlaxoSmithKline's Community Partnerships program.
RCH takes a community approach to accomplishing its mission, with programs based in many Philadelphia neighborhoods. RCH's Focus on Fathers helps fathers and other male caregivers maintain an active role in their children's lives through parenting education, case management and peer support groups.
RCH's Health Intervention Program (HIP) for families of children with special health care needs and Services to Assist Families to Excel (SAFE Program) for parents of young children provide home visitation and case management services so parents can support and nurture their unique child and family needs.
RCH also works with the Philadelphia Department of Human Services (DHS) through the DHS Collaborative to provide fiscal and program monitoring to more than 70 local parenting programs.
