Public Health Management Corporation Completes Acquisition of Wordsworth
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), a nonprofit public health institute that creates and sustains healthier communities, has successfully completed its plan to acquire Wordsworth Academy (Wordsworth), a nonprofit organization providing education, behavioral health, and child welfare services to children, adolescents, and families. The acquisition was effective on January 1, 2018.
PHMC will align Wordsworth’s programs, which include two Community Umbrella Agencies (CUAs), foster family care programs, behavioral health programs, and Wordsworth Academy, into PHMC’s existing business enterprise to ensure the continuation of critical services to populations and communities in need.
“PHMC is committed to and aligned with Wordsworth’s mission to strengthen families and help children overcome emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges,” said PHMC President and CEO Richard J. Cohen. “Under our strong leadership team and through our management agreement, we have begun the process of transitioning Wordsworth’s services into the PHMC organization, thereby ensuring the continuation of critical programming for children and families in our most vulnerable communities.”
The following structure and program alignment will be in place, with all former Wordsworth programs to be rebranded within the PHMC family:
- Turning Points for Children(Turning Points), a PHMC subsidiary that manages CUAs 3 and 9, will oversee Wordsworth’s CUAs 5 and 10 and Wordsworth’s Family First Services (foster care programs).
- PHMC’s Education and Family Services area will oversee Wordsworth Academy, which comprises two special education schools.
- PHMC’s Integrated Health Services area will oversee Wordsworth’s community-based behavioral health programming.
On December 18, 2017 the United States Bankruptcy Court entered an order that confirmed Wordworth’s bankruptcy plan with an effective date of January 1, 2018. This action allowed PHMC to complete its acquisition and formally align the Wordsworth organization into PHMC’s family of programs and subsidiaries.
PHMC has a long-standing legacy of delivering high-quality, evidence-based health, human and social services to individuals and families in the region. Since 1972, PHMC has offered financial, operational, and infrastructure stability to support the delivery of more than 350 programs to best serve individuals and families in the community.
