Interim House Begins Pet Therapy Program

On January 14, residents at Interim House welcomed some much-anticipated visitors - animals from Pals for Life, a local non-profit that provides animal visits to a variety of community organizations.

The women at Interim House are already known for their successful knitting program and even have a blog chronicling their projects. Yet, the residents at Interim House are eager to start this new and different kind of project.

The twenty-five residents of Interim House, a residential and outpatient program for women with addiction and mental health issues recently enjoyed cuddling dogs, cats and rabbits from Pals for Life. Kristin Abbot, director of Pals for Life, began the program at Interim House this past month along with social worker and therapist Kathy Duffy. "Animals give people non-judgmental companionship and love," says Abbot. "The ladies were very receptive and loved the animals." The pets will continue to visit Interim House the second Wednesday of each month.
