PHMC is excited to commemorate Black History Month. The national theme for Black History Month 2024 focuses on “African Americans and the Arts.” Philadelphia offers an abundance of local events, activities and resources to honor Black history, including many events that focus on Black Americans’ impact in the realms of art and culture.
The National Museum of African American History & Culture's 2024 Initiative encourages us to recognize art as a platform for social justice. Their website features wise words from Paul Robeson, who was a concert artist, actor, athlete and activist: "Artists are the gatekeepers of truth. We are civilization's radical voice." This month is a time to honor the Black writers, actors, musicians and artists who have served as change agents through their work by inspiring conversation, action, compassion and social justice.
