Mary Harkins-Schwarz from PHMC's Research and Evaluation group was featured on a panel which discussed Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs) on the New Jersey Public Television series called "The State of New Jersey's Health." PHMC led an ACE study in Philadelphia funded by the Robert Wood Foundation which studied the impact of ACEs in urban populations. The survey revealed that for physical and emotional abuse and household dysfunction measures in Philadelphia35 percent experienced physical abuse as children and 33 percent were emotionally abused. Though 40 percent saw violence, they felt safe in their neighborhoods. Click here to view the show.
